The Biofiligree project also investigates bone fixation plates for orbital cavity fractures. Moving away from conventional titanium mesh, porous polyethylene, and resorbable polymers, this project introduces designs inspired by nature, such as floral and peacock motifs. This approach seeks to soften and romanticise the gravity of facial fractures, addressing the patient’s psychological recovery. Furthermore, the concept allows for these plates to be repurposed into wearable jewellery following their removal, providing a symbolic and aesthetic afterlife for the medical device.
